Who is responsible for your information?
Litsee is operated by Litsee Limited (company number 15841656), registered at 166 Shirley Church Road, Croydon, England, CR0 5AF. You can contact us at info@litsee.com.
Litsee Limited is responsible for the personal information it decides to collect and use for its own services. In a school account, the school may decide which pupil information to enter and why. The school may have its own privacy notice and agreement with Litsee; please contact the school about its decisions and instructions.
Information we use
The information depends on whether you use Litsee as a parent, teacher, pupil or school administrator.
Account and sign-in details
- Name, email address, country, age or age range, profile image and account role.
- Sign-in and security information, such as a protected password, parent or teacher PIN, verification status and account activity.
- If you choose Google or Facebook sign-in, the identity details that provider shares with us. These can include a provider ID, name, email address and profile image; the details available depend on the provider and your settings.
Child and school profiles
A parent or school may provide a child's name, year group, reading level, profile choices, class or school membership, a sign-in PIN and learning-support or accessibility preferences. School records may also include assignments, answers, spelling or quiz results, and reading progress.
Stories and learning activity
We use the story details you choose or create, such as character names, interests, story choices, reading preferences, generated chapters and illustrations. We also process quiz and spelling answers, reading activity, progress and settings so Litsee can save stories and show learning information to the relevant parent or teacher.
Payments and messages
If you buy a plan, credits or a printed book, we receive order, subscription, payment-status and provider-reference details. Stripe handles payment checkout; Litsee does not receive your full card number through the app. If you contact us, we use the message and contact details you provide to respond. We also keep the choices you make about optional product updates.
Technical and service information
When the service is used, our systems create account, security, page-view, feature-use and error information. The app loads Google Tag Manager, which receives page-view events and may load tags that collect browser or device information. The specific data depends on the tags enabled in our container.
How and why we use information
- Run Litsee: create and secure accounts, sign you in, save stories, provide narration and learning features, and support family and school use.
- Personalise reading: use selected reading levels, story choices and learning activity to generate suitable stories and show progress.
- Help and communicate: verify accounts, answer questions, provide service notices and manage optional product updates.
- Take payments and fulfil orders: process plans, credits, refunds and printed-book orders.
- Protect and improve the service: diagnose errors, maintain reliability, prevent misuse and understand how features are used.
- Meet legal duties: keep records and respond to valid legal requests.
Depending on the activity, we rely on the need to provide a service you request, a school or other service agreement, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting Litsee, legal obligations, or consent where it is required. Optional marketing is separate from account use; you can withdraw permission at any time by contacting us or using an unsubscribe link.
Children and schools
Litsee is designed for children to use through a parent or school account. Parents and teachers should explain the service in a way the child can understand and should only add information needed for the learning activity. Please do not put passwords, medical details or other sensitive information into a story prompt.
Schools should use the service under their school agreement and follow their own responsibilities for pupil information. A pupil or parent can contact the school administrator about school-managed records. A parent or guardian can contact Litsee directly about a family profile.
Stories, AI and microphone reading
Story generation and narration
When you create a story, Litsee sends relevant story prompts, choices and reading context to the configured content providers so they can generate chapters and illustrations. A prompt can include a child's chosen character name, interests or reading level. When narration is requested, the story text and selected voice are sent to the configured speech provider. Generated story text, images and audio can be saved in the Litsee story library.
Reading with the microphone
If a reader chooses the microphone reading feature and grants browser permission, the browser's speech-recognition service listens and returns text that Litsee temporarily uses to highlight words on the page. In the current app flow, Litsee does not upload or save the microphone recording or recognition transcript to the account or saved story. The browser or its speech-service provider may process the audio under its own privacy terms. You can stop microphone reading at any time or read without it.
Cookies and browser storage
Litsee uses browser storage to keep sign-in sessions and service preferences. The app also loads Google Tag Manager. Litsee's own page-view event contains the page path without query-string values, but tags enabled in the Tag Manager container may be able to read the full page address and may use cookies or similar technologies to collect device, browser or usage information. The exact tag and cookie list must be checked against the live container before this draft is published as a final notice.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential storage may prevent sign-in or other features from working.
How long we keep information
We keep account, story and learning information while it is needed to provide Litsee to the family or school using it. When an account closes or a valid deletion request is completed, we delete or anonymise information that is no longer needed. We may keep limited information for as long as needed to meet legal and financial duties, resolve disputes, protect the service, or complete backup rotation. The period depends on the kind of record and the reason we need it.
Your privacy rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access, correct, delete or restrict your personal information, object to some uses, or receive a copy in a portable format. If we rely on consent, you can withdraw it. These rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions.
To ask us to act, email info@litsee.com. For step-by-step deletion instructions, visit our data deletion page. A parent or guardian should make requests for a child's family profile. For pupil records managed by a school, contact the school as well.
